What's happenin' around Skangum

Welcome back to my blog. If you enjoyed the other posts, please keep tuning in for more updates about Good Ole Skangum, and other helpful things you may want to know.

This week in the news we have some rather quite interesting information to be passed on to all of my glorious viewers. We have some info about Anne Steele’s retirement, a wellness fair, fireworks, a boat regatta, and athlete’s learning a valuable lesson.

First is the info about Anne Steele. President Steele was the first female president of Muskingum university, and after seventeen long years, she is finally retiring. And during her time here, she has overseen the construction of six new buildings, as well as the implementation of fifteen new majors for students. Along with her retirement, the rec center on campus was renamed to the Anne Steele Center. She has giving Skangum some pretty great things, and now that she is moving on I hope for the best for her.

Second is the wellness fair that was held on campus. The wellness fair was held to improve student’s health and to familiarize them with the resources around them regarding wellness. The stations at the wellness fair range from counseling to health care systems. Muskingum could not allow every service from the surrounding areas to attend because of the sheer numbers, but a select few chosen services appeared based on relevance to students and their needs.

Now I am going to talk about the stellar light show the other weekend. The Muskingum World vision club and student life paired up to give the students of Muskingum university a truly special treat, fireworks. They even gave out free shirts to the first thirty people to show up and provided snacks to all who watched, that’s something special and rare.

Next thing I am going to talk about is the annual boat regatta race, and not just regular boats, these are cardboard boats made by the students of Muskingum. The students use the boats that they made out of cardboard to race across the lake. Cody Dent and Lexi Ricker won the cardboard boat regatta. Along with winning the race, they also won best boat award too, talk about a unique boat. From past experiences, few boats make it across the lake.

Finally I am going to talk about the guest speaker that athletes had on Monday, April 11. The guest speaker spoke to the athletes about drug and addiction issues. Campbell spoke to the athletes about Tyler’s Light and Tyler’s story about drug and addiction.

Anyway, that is all I have for today Muskies. Remember stay golden at Good Ole Skangum.

Stress getting to you?

Welcome back to my blog. If you enjoyed the first post, please keep tuning in for more updates about Good Ole Skangum.

This week in the news we have some rather quite interesting information to be passed on to all of my glorious viewers. Finals week is coming up soon, so I thought I may try to give you all some helpful tips on relieving stress. These tips may even help you get the grades that you need, and be happier than most others during this time of stress and sadness.

My first tip is to get some sleep. You cannot imagine how much getting a good night’s sleep can help you. Your body and mind will feel refreshed and ready to take on these gruesome exams. Adults typically need seven to nine hours of sleep a night for best health, but I recommend 10 hours because that is what I do and I am relatively stress free.

My second tip is to eat right. Filling yourself up with junk food can seem appealing but in the long run, it is harming you. Eating healthy and good foods can leave you feeling energized and ready to combat finals.

My third tip is to get out and exercise. Just go somewhere and take your mind off of all of your responsibilities. Just go outside for 20-60 minutes and do something you enjoy. By doing this you can reduce your stress levels considerably.

My fourth tip is to avoid stimulants. Artificial stimulants like caffeine pills or prescription meds may help you stay awake for that all-night study session, but putting off your body’s need to sleep will ultimately result in an energy crash, resulting again in a greater susceptibility to stress. And like I said earlier, sleep is very important.

My fifth tip is to talk to somebody. Adjusting to college can be difficult, and venting your frustrations to a trusted friend can go a long way in fighting stress. People underestimate the value of venting in our society today. Venting to a friend can leave you feeling like a brand new person.

My sixth tip is to keep your goals insight. Just the fact of knowing what you’re striving for can be a major driving force behind people. Don’t let your tasks outweigh the reward of your struggle. And plus, once it’s accomplished it feels a lot better.

That’s it for my tips. Anyway, that is all I have for today Muskies. Remember stay golden at Good Ole Skangum.

E-sports coming to Skangum!?!

Welcome back to my blog. If you enjoyed the first post, please keep tuning in for more updates about Good Ole Skangum.

This week in the news we have some rather quite interesting information to be passed on to all of my glorious viewers. Esports have taken the United States of America by storm and Good Ole Skangum is no different.

First I should start with what is an Esport. An Esport is a multiplayer video game played competitively for spectators, typically by professional gamers. And the main one that is sweeping across universities in the United States is none other than League of Legends.
League of Legends is a fast-paced, competitive online game that blends the speed and intensity of an RTS with RPG elements. Two teams of powerful champions, each with a unique design and playstyle, battle head-to-head across multiple battlefields and game modes. With an ever-expanding roster of champions, frequent updates and a thriving tournament scene, League of Legends offers endless replayability for players of every skill level. It is known as a MOBA which is a multiplayer online battle arena. LOL (League of Legends) is one of the premier MOBAs of the world, with world championships. Many different nations and countries have teams to compete against each other. Esports are starting to become so big that they are starting to be broadcasted on ESPN, which is a huge milestone for Esports. And not just League of Legends, there is DOTA2, Heroes of the Storm, Smite and a few others which are dominating this industry. These games have been rising in popularity in the recent years and are still growing. Many schools now are forming League of Legends teams to compete against each other. And many schools are starting to give out scholarships for League of Legends. Can you imagine, a world where Esports is just as popular and watched as regular sports. Where it becomes a tradition to watch the summer finals or the world finals of League of Legends during holidays instead of parades or other sports. Anyway, that is all I have for today Muskies. Remember stay golden at Good Ole Skangum.

MuskiePalooza

This week in the news we have some rather quite interesting information to be passed on to all of my glorious viewers. Muskiepalooza is this weekend. Which means this campus is going to come to life.

There will also be rock climbing, stunt jump, and many more activities during the festival in the day time which is sponsored by MPB. All these events are free so come out and have some fun.

There are a bunch of off the radar things happening too this weekend. So have fun and be careful. I knew multiple people last that ended up in the hospital because they went too “hard”. I am not trying to be a downer, I am just saying be safe. This weekend can be a huge amount of fun, there are a lot of people doing a lot of things. This weekend is what really makes this school fun. Most recruits I have talked to have come to muskiepalooza and were sold on Muskingum just because of this one weekend. This weekend is going to be a blast for those who remember it and for those who don’t, either way have fun and stay safe this weekend at Good Ole Skangum.

The Spring at Skangum

Welcome back to my blog. If you enjoyed the first post, please keep tuning in for more updates about Good Ole Skangum.

This week in the news we have some rather quite interesting information to be passed on to all of my glorious viewers. The weather outside is finally starting to look more like the fruitful and lively spring, and less like the cold and dimming winter. I am going to talk about what is going on around the campus and what is happening in the spring of Good Ole Skangum.

To start the weather outside is absolutely beautiful. It is nice and warm out, and it is fairly windy too so you don’t burn up too badly from the heat. But me being from the Sunshine state itself, Florida, it is still rather cold compared to spring there, but none the less it is still beautiful outside. And with this glorious weather comes the sports that have been waiting for this time of year. And these sports are Baseball, Softball, Track and Field, Men’s Lacrosse, Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s Tennis, Women’s Tennis, Golf, and spring Football if you want to count it.

Out of the 27 games played, baseball is 15-12 which isn’t a bad start but there is a lot of room to grow. Softball isn’t doing so well with a record of 13-19, but there are still a lot of games to play to turn around the season. The Track and Field teams are doing alright but there are a few meets left to show what the muskies are made of. Men’s Lacrosse is 2-9 with only three games left to play.  Women’s Lacrosse is 4-10 with only three games left as well. The Men’s Tennis team ended their season 0-13, but hey there is always next year right. Women’s Tennis team is 1-9, with three matches left. Also their senior night is tomorrow 4/19/16 so come out and support your fellow muskies to bring home that W. For the Golf team’s they haven’t had much luck but the OAC championships are coming up, so I hope that they are able to shine and show the world what the muskies are made of. And finally spring Football. It has been a long and enduring four weeks but spring Football is coming to a close, with only a few things left to do. The school year is coming to a close and I am hoping that all of the muskies have good luck in these final weeks.

sprang break

Welcome back to my blog. If you enjoyed the first post, please keep tuning in for more updates about Good Ole Skangum.

This week in the news we have some rather quite interesting information to be passed on to all of my glorious viewers. Muskingum just came back from their spring break. So i am going to talk about how my spring break went.

Frist thing is first, i broke my phone the friday of spring break. i had dropped weight on it so i was without a phone for a while. I managed to get home to florida on the first saturday of spring break by flying out of columbus to st pete florida. But the downer of the flight was i was stuck on the plane for an extra two hours because first the plane had ice on it and they had to de-ice it. then once we landed, there was a plane that broke down in our gate so we had to sit in the plane on the runway for an hour. once i arrived at the airport i had to wait for my friend to arrive to pick me up then we went to munchies 4/20 for some food. Once back at my friends house we waited until sunday to go to my house to surprise my family because they didn't know i was coming home. When i went home, my whole family was surprised that i was home. the only sad part was that i missed my sister's wedding, but i heard i was a drag so i guess that was a win. While at home, Grifball was available on Halo5. so i spent around 12 hours of my break on grifball. Then also the division came out so i spent 4 hours on that. I also got to lift and workout with my best friend who is training for the olympics. We pulled trucks up hills and other harsh strength and conditioning training. I also got to stay on an island resort for three days during spring break for free. We got free food, drinks, and rooms because my friends and i are good friends with the owner of the resort. during my last day of being in florida, my friend that i played football with came home from college on his spring break. so we pulled an all nighter which turned out to me repairing his girlfriends broken down car because everyone else was drunk. Once back in ohio i caught up on homework and league of legends.

what's happening around skangum

Welcome back to my blog. If you enjoyed the first post, please keep tuning in for more updates about Good Ole Skangum.

This week in the news we have some rather quite interesting information to be passed on to all of my glorious viewers. First thing is first, Skangum is going to be introducing new courses in the next fall. These new courses will be based around athletics, which is great for our already outstanding programs based around athletics. There will be four total new majors and minors added to Skangum long list of majors and minors. These new majors will include Athletics communication and Sport Administration. The two new minors are Sports coaching and Nutrition. These new majors and minors will hopefully be great additions to the Muskingum community and I can’t wait to see how well they do.

The second thing I am going to talk to you all about is “The Vagina Monologues”. The vagina monologues’ main purpose is to bring to light violence against women. This campaign started in 1996 by Eve Ensler. The vagina monologues come to Muskingum for valentine’s day. The vagina monologues is a theatrical production around the world and ours will be held from Feb 19-20 in the Kelley coffee house at 7:30pm.

Next in the news is that Skangum’s student senate go over what they can and can’t fund. If you didn’t know, the student senate is responsible for allocations of funding when it comes to student activity fees. The main goal is to ensure that the student activity fee is being spent in a beneficial way for the students.

In other news, Sandra Schroer and Eclectic DJ, Scott Rawdon, take students through the life of a relationship through music on Valentine’s day. The music was meant to reflect the many different emotions that one could experience throughout the life of the relationship. This was all done through the WMCO Eclectic radio show.

In more exotic news, the Muskingum valley Symphonic Winds performed their concert on February 14 at 3pm in the Brown Chapel. The concert was not valentine’s day themed though. The exotic part about this piece of news is that they chose to perform music from countries in the far east such as Japan, China, and Korea.

Well that is all this time folk. I hope you come back next time to see what is happening at Good Ole Skangum.
